[Feature | Inside eterble] The Untold Story of Development: From 20 Tons of Discarded Tablecloths to Recycled Polyester Yarn and Fabric

◆”Using Our Own Discarded Materials” and “Eco-Friendly Production Methods”

Tablecloths designated for disposal are sent to factories where they are carefully sorted by color and finely cut. By cutting them according to color, we can create recycled yarn that maximizes the use of the original color.

While adding dyes might have allowed us to achieve the exact colors we envisioned, we deliberately chose not to use dyes. This is because the dyeing process consumes a large amount of water and can contribute to water pollution.

We carefully considered each step of the recycling process, pooling our wisdom to develop fabrics that are genuinely sustainable. As a result, we achieved the reduction in “energy associated with incineration,” “greenhouse gas emissions,” and “water consumption through dyeing.”

The yarn thus produced is transformed into beautifully finished fabric by the loom weaving craftsmen with advanced skills.

In addition, for more challenging sewing tasks, we enlisted seamstresses who typically craft wedding dresses, ensuring that the final product maintained an uncompromising standard of quality.

◆Purely Local Production : Unique Sustainable Tableware with After-Sales Support

All production processes are carried out in Japan. Through numerous discussions with local artisans, we upheld the principle of “making the most of the resources available on Earth” and explored options to avoid waste until the very end.

As a result, we even utilized “excess fabric” generated during the tablecloth production process. This led to the development of new products like coasters, napkins, placemats, aprons, and tote bags, expanding our product lineup.

To ensure long-lasting use of our products, we also offer an “Aftercare Service for Tablecloths.” Given the large size of tablecloths, washing, drying, and ironing them can be more labor-intensive than expected. To address this, we have included a service that allows customers to easily consult with skilled professionals for free cleaning advice (*).

(*Cleaning is always free for customers within Japan, though shipping costs are due to customer.)
