In this series of interview, eterble asked space creation professionals with a variety of perspectives about how anyone can create a rich table space, ideas, and techniques. In this volume we spoke with Yumi Sugizaki, a dining space decorator who is active as a table coordinator and instructor of finger food lessons at her home and at outside commercial facilities.

ーHow to choose the table linensー

When I choose table linens, I look for color, pattern, texture, and feel. Table linens play a major role when it comes to the impression of coordination because of their large surface. They are important as they immediately elevate the look, even with the same vessel you use daily, they add soft nuance, or incorporate current trends.

ーFrom Yumi’s persopectiveー

I like eterble as they provide wide range of elegant earth colors.
In addition, the texture of the linen is so good that it gives the coordination a class and elegance all at once.

I have selected numerous linens for table decorations in the past, and I can see that eterble linens are thick and resilient, yet easy to drape and create a beautiful nuanced look. I think it it also ideal linen because it looks classy, and can be harmonized well with flowers, tableware, and food.

I also find that sewing is very particular.
eterble’s products are sewn by artisans who make wedding dresses, and when you look at the back side of the products, you will be wowed by the mastery of their work. The sewing treatment of the back side of the three tiers of tucks, and the four corners of the Elisabeth series is really wonderful! I was very impressed.

One more thing I would like to tell is about the Lithuanian linen.
I once learnt that Lithuania provides one of the best linen in the world. High-quality “Lithuanian linen” made in Lithuania is considered such a good fabric that it is renowned as  “Eco-Tex® Standard 100 Certified,” which qualifies as the world’s highest safety standard.

Linen has been gaining worldwide recognition for its value from a sustainable perspective in recent years. At eterble, the Lithuanian linen is selected and sewn with Japanese quality. I hope you will take a look at the actual product in person.

Among eterble’s items, I personally love the large Japanese furoshiki style cloth “Sintra” and the Elisabeth series table runner.

ーChoosing table linens for the first time for my home. What should I be aware of?ー

First, imagine the “scenes”.
For example, if it is a home party where people gather, clarify the purpose of the gathering and expand the image to include the time (day or night) and characteristics of the people who will gather. This will make it easier to consider the food and drinks, and the color and style of the table decorations.

This is same withe everyday use: what’s the scene you want to use?
It is a good idea to envision the type of tableware and food that will be arranged. If you can’t think of a scene, you can start by choosing from linens in your favorite colors and combining them with plates.

ーEasy technique to elevate that look!ー

The “napkin ring” is an item that holds individual napkins together, and  is effective for special occasions when you want to add a touch of glamour to your tabletop attire. Napkin rings come in a variety of designs, and the impression can be changed dramatically depending on the choice.

When arranging the napkins, it is recommended to insert seasonal branches or other items on the napkins to accentuate the napkins and give them a seasonal look.
