In this series of interview, eterble asked space creation professionals with a variety of perspectives about how anyone can create a rich table space, ideas, and techniques. We talked with Kazumi Oya, a food space producer who is also in charge as the director at FSPJ, and plays the role as an manager / instructor trainer at the FSPJ table coordinating institute.

ーEnjoying the table linensー

I believe that table linens have the greatest influence on the expression and design of table coordination. They provide a greater change depending on the texture of the linen, the pattern, and the design of the details. Encountering “linen with the world view you envision” is a fun way to spark your imagination even before you start coordinating.

Usually, when I buy table linens myself, I sometimes go to department stores to look for them, but recently I have been visiting select stores that offer lifestyle goods. When I want something a little different, I go to the fabric wholesale district.

Although the fabrics are not necessarily processed for tablecloths use, it is a pleasure to encounter fabrics with matching patterns and colors that coordinate with the tablecloths.

“Resort Casual” table coordination by Kazumi. She found a fabric with a pattern that matches her theme and combined it as a bridge runner (two runners hanging over the table).

ーAdding a little bit of eye-catchingー

From the eterble’s products, I thought the table runner with color-blocking in 2~3 colors was very nice.

A table looks great when it has a little change or something eye-catching. It is rare to see runners with this kind of design, and available in a variety of colors is also a plus point.

ーSpecial day’s table setting technique anyone can tryー

It is recommended to increase the amount of cloth relative to the table. Take for example, if you usually use luncheon mats on daily basis, then try use a table runner instead. If you are a user of a table runner then try a tablecloths…

By increasing the amount of fabric, it is possible to create an extraordinary look or an elevated everyday look.

ーeterble through an eye of a table coordinatorー

The first time I touched to eterble’s cloth was when I used Azulejo at an event for table coordination enthusiasts. In the first place I was very surprised. The texture was hard to believe that it was made from recycled discarded cloth. It was firm to the touch and easy to handle.

Colors that blend in with any lifestyle, and high-quality textures have an appeal not found in flamboyant items.

It has a sense of stability that gently and gently supports our daily lives, and while it has a sense of presence, it does not make unnecessary assertions, and it elevates any coordinated scene.

I also feel that the further appeal and potential of the product is that, it also raises the user’s sense of self-esteem in knowing that the product is a sustainable concept that takes the global environment into consideration.
